MUHAMMED IS PREDICTED IN THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS

MUHAMMED IS PREDICTED IN THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS

In Islam all prophets are respected, and loved. However, Muhammed has a special place, for He is believed to be the last of prophets and the greatest of them in function and success and for He was predicted by many of the former messengers.

Old Testament: Deuteronomy (God says): (18:18) I will raise them up a Prophet from "among their brethren", "like unto thee", and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. (18:19) And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

New Testament: John: (Jesus-Christ says): (16:7-16) But what I am saying is true: my going is for your good: for if I do not go away, the "Helper" will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. And he, when he comes, "will make the world conscious of sin, and of righteousness, and of being judged": Of sin, because they have not faith in me; Of righteousness, because I go to the Father and you will see me no more; Of being judged, because the ruler of this world has been judged. I have still much to say to you, but you are not strong enough for it now. However, when he, the Spirit of true knowledge, has come, he will be your guide into all true knowledge: for his words will not come from himself, but whatever has come to his hearing, that he will say: and he will make clear to you the things to come. "He will give me glory, because he will take of what is mine, and make it clear to you."

_____________And when Jesus son of Mary said: O Children of Israel! Lo! I am the messenger of Allah unto you, confirming that which was (revealed) before me in the Torah, and bringing good tidings of a messenger who cometh after me, whose name is the Praised One. Yet when he hath come unto them with clear proofs, they say: This is mere magic.(Qur'an: Ch.61v.6)

EXPLANATIONS ON MENTIONED VERSES OF THE BIBLE:

New Testament:

1.The statements of New Testament "The Helper" or "The Comforter" or in some Gospels "The Advocate" are translations of the word "Paraclete". According to an interpretation of The New Testament (Companion To The New Testament - A. E. HARVEY - Oxford Unv. Pres [ISBN:193261608]-Cambridge Unv. Pres. 1970) Paraclete is explained so:"This was not "advocacy" in the western, professional sense: the paraclete influenced the judge's decision, not by his knowledge of the law (for this was the judge's business) but by the weight of his personal authority as a man enjoying the esteem of society." Now, if you consider that Muhammed means literally-exactly Praised (Hmd:Praise, Muhammed:Praised), you will understand that the name Praised/Muhammed would fit better instead of Comforter; in this way, christian thinkers would be relieved also from an awful task of explaining what Paraclete means.

2. The statement "will make the world conscious of sin, and of righteousness, and of being judged": Really there is no other book in the world other than Qur'an, which explains sin, righteousness, and judgement more explicitly than Qur'an, the book of true knowledge.

3.The statement "He will give me glory, because he will take of what is mine, and make it clear to you.": Muhammed made clear that Jesus was a man and an important prophet; and that He was not a God.

4.The statement "For his words will not come from himself, but whatever has come to his hearing, that he will say: and he will make clear to you the things to come": Here we understand that he will not be of divine nature as his words will not come from himself; and he will explain future things, which was what exactly Muhammed did.

Old Testament:

5.The statement "among their brethren" is in conformity with the past of Muhammed; as he is a descendent of the prophet Ismael one of Jacob's brothers. And "Among their brethren" is especially important, for if This Prophet was to come among jewish people, it would be either "Among them" or "Among their sons".

6.The statement "like unto thee" is again in conformity with the personality and the deeds of Muhammed: He made many wars against unbelievers and defeated them like Moses. But Jesus did not do such things and the lack of such a victory was always a source of confusion among his disciples.

The next second page of the above mentioned interpretation contains also following explanations about the quoted verses of The New Testament:

"This was indeed the greatest reversal of their presuppositions which the disciples had to face. They could perhaps understand how it was that the person of Jesus, during his time on earth, presented a humble appearance and provoked indifference or rejection instead of eliciting universal homage. But this period, Jesus had said again and again, was merely a prelude to his "glorification". Their whole notion of a Messiah was of a figure who would finally dispel the doubts and ambiguities of religious faith and present all men with a decisive manifestation of the power of God and the vindication of the righteous. But Jesus' words seemed to suggest a further period -even after his glorification - when things would not be so plain, and when faith still would not have given place to sight.. And indeed, after the resurrection, the church found itself with the task of explaining why, since Christ was now glorified and God's kingdom was a reality, the world seemed to be going on exactly as before, and the glory of God was still perceptible only to those who believed." ... "The old concept of a glorious Messiah-king, establishing the rule of God by force, had to give place to that of a new relationship between God and man:"

These show that Muhammed is the greatest (and perhaps the last; for He completes the duty of the prophets for ever) of the prophets in function.

QUESTIONS WHICH SHOW WHETHER HE WAS A LIAR OR A MESSENGER

___________________The messenger believes in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers; they all believe in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers; We make no difference between any of His messengers; and they say: We hear and obey, our Lord! Thy forgiveness (do we crave), and to Thee is the eventual course (Quran:Ch.2v.285).

I always wonder which probabilities do/will the non-moslems accord to the below suggestions relating to Muhammed and his belief in His Mission and Quran; in God; in the former prophets; in the hereafter; or his being an atheist liar, or a believing liar.

So, dear friends, what are the probabilities of :

1. His disbelief in Allah,

Some criteria: His proposal and stress on a rational belief. No biological or physical or chemical ... scientific advances had happened then. Had he discovered spacetime curvature as an explanation for gravity, or evolution? His disbelief was not enough, he had to be very sure of his disbelief for the fear from torture of hell; for the risk.

2. His disbelief in The Quran and its being revealed to Him

Some criteria: His belief in the Qur'an relates to his senses and lasted for many years; so, any who suggests his disbelief, suggests in the same time his utter liarness

2.1. If He believed in the Quran, was it an illness? Some criteria: The revelation lasted for 23 years. If it was an illness, was he believing in the contents of the Qur'an?

2.2. If He believed in the Quran, were there aliens?

Some criteria: The scientific trueness of Qur'an.

3. Could an illiterate man, in the middle of a desert, 1400 years before could compose a book which includes so wonderful principles and such a strong logic which is the main weapon of his followers, even in the present era?

4. If He lied about its being revealed to him, was it for the good of his society?

Some criteria: A non-experienced system in his community, or a system which up to then failed to construct a good society, as seen in christians and jews; and although some good sides, always had been deteriorated by the following nations. A very opposing system to the then existings customs of his community. How could he know that his propositions (according to non-moslems lies) could give good practical results?

5. His belief that his propositions would be good for his society in practical results,

6. His joking with his community

7. The unification of the great idealism and making the community follow wrong ideals (lies) in one person.

8. His maintenance of his ideal (if based on lies) for advancing his community in spite of its tortures during the first years of the call, toward his very few followers who were burnt, torn into peaces. (without taking into account the nature of his ideals)

Some criteria:The contradiction between his disbelieving alternative which moves him for changing his community; his propositions that condemn the bad.

9.His putting the people he loves and his relatives under death risk, and not turning back for saving their lives

10. His putting his life under the risk of death for such a community,

11. His expectation of success of such a community?

11.1. His expectations of success from his community; when the nature of his ideas are taken into account,

11.2. His expectations of success from his community; when the nature of his ideas are taken into account with the knowledge that all former prophets have been either killed or refused,

12. His disbelief in other prophets,

Some criteria: If he believed in them, he would try to spread their belief systems but without lying; if he did not believe in them, why should he pretend to be their follower?

13. His disbelief in the hereafter.

Some criteria: If he believed, He had not to lie. If he did not believe, why to stress so much on it and condemn those who do not believe in it, even if they do good deeds?

14. His staying alive in such a community

Some criteria: Think of the desert, the easiness of killing a person who revolts against and mocks all the culture, political, sociological, economical ... system of a community, who revolts against powerfull people who kill their own daughters, who killed some of the first converts in unimaginable tortures, who offered prizes to the person who would bring the head of Muhammed?

14.1. The uttering of the statement: Allah will protect thee from mankind(Quran:Ch:5v.67) and its being true.

Some criteria: He had to trust in Allah.

15. His being able to keep his serenity under death threatenings , (those in managerial posts know that how it is difficult to manage stress in such conditions, his unchanging his message)

_______________If you will not aid him, Allah certainly aided him when those who disbelieved expelled him, he being the second of the two, when they were both in the cave, when he said to his companion: Grieve not, surely Allah is with us. So Allah sent down His tranquillity upon him and strengthened him with hosts which you did not see, and made lowest the word of those who disbelieved; and the word of Allah, that is the highest; and Allah is Mighty, Wise.(Quran:Ch.9.v.40)

16. His presenting himself as the messenger of God if the situation was otherwise: If he did not believe in God?

Some criteria:Without it there would be no danger, he could still be a revered person.

17. His being an unintelligent person, so as to be able to utter the greatest of lies.

18. Forbiddance of future prophets and the fact that no messenger came after him: In 1400 years.

Some criteria: Prediction of future prophets by former prophets and their coming.

Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Last of the prophets; and Allah is cognizant of all things. (Quran:Ch:33v.40)

Well, atheists are a very little bit consistent because they have the pretext of not believing in God;

But what are the pretexts of those who believe in God for not believing in Muhammed? Therefore another question:

19. And if you believe in God, what is the probability that God makes Himself known by a liar? Or not making Himself known?

And who is more wicked than he who forges a lie against Allah, or says: It has been revealed to me; while nothing has been revealed to him, and he who says: I can reveal the like of what Allah has revealed? and if you had seen when the unjust shall be in the agonies of death and the angels shall spread forth their hands: Give up your souls; today shall you be recompensed with an ignominious chastisement because you spoke against Allah other than the truth and (because) you showed pride against His communications. (Quran:Ch.6/93)

JANNAT $ HELL

JANNAT (PARADISE)
1. Jannat is a very large and very beautiful place.
2. It has been made by Allah Ta'ala for Muslims.
3. It's walls have been made of bricks of gold and silver and its cement is made of musk.
4. The ground is made of saffron and ambergris (a wax-like substance).
5. Instead of gravel, there will be diamonds and pearls.
6. There are huge mansions made of pearls, diamonds and beautiful jewellery to house the residents of Jannat.
7. There are 100 ranks in Jannat. Each rank is as large in breadth as the sky to the ground. It's doors are so wide that a fast horse would have to run seventy years to get from one side to another.
8. There will be so many gifts in Jannat that you would not dream or think about.
9. There will be various types of fruits, milk, honey, wine (sweet smelling, non-alcoholic) and other delicious types of food for the Jannatis.
10. Jannatis will be given clothes so beautiful that nobody in this world will have ever had fate to wear.
11. For assistance, thousands of "Ghilmaan" or clean, pure servants will be available and for company, beautiful "Hoors" (princesses) whose beauty will be so intense that if one Hoor actually looked towards this world, the people would become unconscious just by looking at her beauty and shining.
12. No one will feel sleepy or fall sick in Jannat.
13. No one will be scared or taste death in Jannat.
14. There would not be any sort of trouble, difficulty, hardships or suffering but all kinds of comfort in Jannat.
15. Every wish, request and desire will be fulfilled in Jannat and the greatest Ne'mat (blessing) in Jannat is to make Didaar (see) of Allah Ta'ala.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
JAHANNAM (HELL)
1. This place has been made for the Kaafirs (infidels), Munafiqs (hypocrites) and the sinful and wicked people to live. The Kaafirs will be imprisoned here forever.
2. This is also a place where there is complete darkness and strong black fire, which has no shine to it.
3. It's fire will continue to get hotter. The fire of Hell is so strong that if a pinpoint (equal to a tip of a needle) of it was thrown into this world every single person would die from its heat.
4. If one of the guards of Hell came to this world, people would all die just by seeing his frightening face. No one would survive.
5. The Jahannamis will be given many different types of punishment. Big snakes and scorpions will bite them. People will have their heads crushed by big hammers. People will suffer from extreme hunger and thirst. They will be given a boiling hot oil type of water to drink and poisonous thorny fruits to eat. When they eat this fruit it will get stuck in the throat, and to wash it down they will ask for water and will be given boiling hot water. When drinking this water, all their insides will break and wash away. The thirst will be so extreme that when drinking this water the lips will crumble away.
6. The Kaafirs will become so helpless from this punishment that they will wish for death, but death will not come. They will ask for each other's advice and go to the guard of Hell, Hazrat Malik. They will ask him to speak to Allah Ta'ala of their fate. Hazrat Malik will not reply to them for a thousand years. After a thousand years, he will reply, "What are you telling me for, tell Him Whom you have disobeyed". Then for a thousand years they will call Allah Ta'ala by His Merciful Names, and for a thousand years He will not reply. After a thousand years, Allah Ta'ala will reply, "Stay away, remain in Hell, do not talk to Me". At this time, the Kaafirs will become completely hopeless of any kind of mercy and will start screaming and crying like the sound of donkeys. First they will cry with tears. Then, when the tears finish, they will cry with tears of blood. There will be big gaping gaps in their cheeks due to the effects of their crying. The amount of water and pus from crying will be so much that if boats were put into them, they would start sailing. The face of Jahannamis will be so bad that if a Jahannami were brought into this world, all the people would die by looking at his face and from the foul stench.
7. Finally, for the Kaafirs, the situation will be such that for every infidel a coffin will be prepared for them to the length of their height, and then they will be put into this coffin. Then, it will be set on fire and it will be locked with a padlock of fire. It will be then be put inside a larger coffin also made of fire and the gap between will be set on fire. A padlock with chains made of fire will also be put around it. It will then be put into another coffin and then also set on fire and again will be locked with a lock of fire. All this will be then put into a bonfire. Then all the infidels will think that they will never be able to withstand any other heat and that this punishment is above all punishment. There will always be punishment for them and it will never end.
8. After all the Jannatis enter Jannat, only the Jahannamis will be left in Jahannam forever. At that time, death would be placed in between Jannat and Dozakh in the form of a ram. Then a voice will call out to the Jannatis. They would peep with fear thinking that they would be taken out of Jannat. Then, the voice will call out to the Jahannamis. They would be happy while peeping thinking that they would be taken out from Dozakh. Then the voice would ask them if they recognise it (the ram). All will say, "Yes, this is death." Then the ram will be slaughtered. The voice will say, "O Jannatis, you will live forever and will not die". Then it would say, "O Jahannamis, you will live forever and will not die". From this, the Jannatis will be ever happy and the Jahannamis will be very sad
So...?

The Seven Earths

The Seven Earths

The Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad is the second revealed source of Islam. Like the Quran, it contains scientific information unavailable 1400 years ago. From these miracles is the “seven” earths, mentioned by the Prophet in several of his sayings. From them are the following two:

Hadith 1

It was narrated on the authority of Abu Salamah that a dispute arose between him and some other people (about a piece of land). When he told Aisha (the Prophet’s wife) about it, she said, ‘O Abu Salamah! Avoid taking the land unjustly, for the Prophet said:

“Whoever usurps even one span of land of somebody, its depth through the seven earths will be collared to his neck.” (Saheeh Al-Bukhari, ‘Book of Oppression.’)

Hadith 2

Salim narrated on the authority of his father that the Prophet said:

“Whoever takes a piece of land of others unjustly, he will sink down the seven earths on the Day of Resurrection.” (Saheeh Al-Bukhari, ‘Book of Oppression.’)

The aforementioned hadith prohibits oppression in general, especially the taking of a piece of land belonging to others unjustly. What are the seven earths they refer to?

Studies in geology have proven that the earth is composed of seven zones, identified from the inner to the outer layers as follows:

(1) The Solid Inner Core of Earth: 1.7% of the Earth’s mass; depth of 5,150 - 6,370 kilometers (3,219 - 3,981 miles)

The inner core is solid and unattached to the mantle, suspended in the molten outer core. It is believed to have solidified as a result of pressure-freezing which occurs to most liquids when temperature decreases or pressure increases.

(2) The Liquid Outer core: 30.8% of Earth’s mass; depth of 2,890 - 5,150 kilometers (1,806 - 3,219 miles)

The outer core is a hot, electrically conducting liquid within which convective motion occurs. This conductive layer combines with Earth’s rotation to create a dynamo effect that maintains a system of electrical currents known as the Earth’s magnetic field. It is also responsible for the subtle jerking of Earth’s rotation. This layer is not as dense as pure molten iron, which indicates the presence of lighter elements. Scientists suspect that about 10% of the layer is composed of sulfur and/or oxygen because these elements are abundant in the cosmos and dissolve readily in molten iron.

(3) The “D” Layer: 3% of Earth’s mass; depth of 2,700 - 2,890 kilometers (1,688 - 1,806 miles)

This layer is 200 to 300 kilometers (125 to 188 miles) thick and represents about 4% of the mantle-crust mass. Although it is often identified as part of the lower mantle, seismic discontinuities suggest the “D” layer might differ chemically from the lower mantle lying above it. Scientists theorize that the material either dissolved in the core, or was able to sink through the mantle but not into the core because of its density.

(4) Lower Mantle: 49.2% of Earth’s mass; depth of 650 - 2,890 kilometers (406 -1,806 miles)

The lower mantle contains 72.9% of the mantle-crust mass and is probably composed mainly of silicon, magnesium, and oxygen. It probably also contains some iron, calcium, and aluminum. Scientists make these deductions by assuming the Earth has a similar abundance and proportion of cosmic elements as found in the Sun and primitive meteorites.

(5) Middle Mantle (Transition region): 7.5% of Earth’s mass; depth of 400 - 650 kilometers (250-406 miles)

The transition region or mesosphere (for middle mantle), sometimes called the fertile layer, contains 11.1% of the mantle-crust mass and is the source of basaltic magmas. It also contains calcium, aluminum, and garnet, which is a complex aluminum-bearing silicate mineral. This layer is dense when cold because of the garnet. It is buoyant when hot because these minerals melt easily to form basalt which can then rise through the upper layers as magma.

(6) Upper Mantle: 10.3% of Earth’s mass; depth of 10 - 400 kilometers (6 - 250 miles)

The upper mantle contains 15.3% of the mantle-crust mass. Fragments have been excavated for our observation by eroded mountain belts and volcanic eruptions. Olivine (Mg,Fe)2SiO4 and pyroxene (Mg,Fe)SiO3 have been the primary minerals found in this way. These and other minerals are refractory and crystalline at high temperatures; therefore, most settle out of rising magma, either forming new material or never leaving the mantle. Part of the upper mantle called the asthenosphere might be partially molten.

(7) Lithosphere

Oceanic crust: 0.099% of Earth’s mass; depth of 0-10 kilometers (0 - 6 miles)

The rigid, outermost layer of the Earth comprising the crust and upper mantle is called the lithosphere. The oceanic crust contains 0.147% of the mantle-crust mass. The majority of the Earth’s crust was made through volcanic activity. The oceanic ridge system, a 40,000-kilometer (25,000 mile) network of volcanoes, generates new oceanic crust at the rate of 17 km3 per year, covering the ocean floor with basalt. Hawaii and Iceland are two examples of the accumulation of basalt piles.

This image shows a cross section through the earth’s crust and upper mantle showing lithosphere plates (made of the crust layer and the top part of the mantle) moving over the asthenosphere (upper mantle). Windows to the Universe, at (http://www.windows.ucar.edu) at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR). ©1995-1999, 2000 The Regents of the University of Michigan; ©2000-05 University Corporation for Atmospheric Research. Continental crust: 0.374% of Earth’s mass; depth of 0-50 kilometers (0 - 31 miles)

The continental crust contains 0.554% of the mantle-crust mass. This is the outer part of the Earth composed essentially of crystalline rocks. These are low-density buoyant minerals dominated mostly by quartz (SiO2) and feldspars (metal-poor silicates). The crust (both oceanic and continental) is the surface of the Earth; as such, it is the coldest part of our planet. Because cold rocks deform slowly, we refer to this rigid outer shell as the lithosphere (the rocky or strong layer).

This image shows the divisions of the Earth’s interior into 7 layers. (Adapted from Beatty, 1990).

Conclusion

The layers of the earth coincide with the above mentioned hadith of the Prophet. The miracle is in two matters:

(1) The expression of the hadith, ‘He will sink down the seven earths on the Day of Resurrection,’ indicates the stratification of these “earths” around one center.

(2) The accuracy with which the Prophet of Islam referred to the seven inner layers of earth.

The only way for a desert dweller to have known these facts 1400 years ago is through revelation from God.

About the Miracle of the Splitting of the Moon

About the Miracle of the Splitting of the Moon

About the Miracle of the Splitting of the Moon

Taken from The Miracles of Muhammad a book written

by: Bediuzzaman Said Nursi

In the Name of Allah, The Compassionate, The Merciful

The Hour is nigh, and the moon split. But if they see a sign, they turn away and say. "This is evident Magic." Qur'an 54:1-2

MATERIALIST philosophers and their absurd imitators, who attempt to cast a shadow over such a moon-like miracle of Muhammad (S) by vicious misgivings, say, "If the splitting of the moon had occurred, it would have been known to the whole world and narrated on all the books of history."

OUR ANSWER: The splitting of the moon was demonstrated as an evidence of prophethood. It happened instantaneously, before a certain group of deniers at a time of night when people were asleep. There were, at the same time, obstacles that prevented others from witnessing this event, such as fog, clouds, and the time differences between parts of the world. Furthermore, science had not spread at the time, so that researches were very limited. This miracle therefore, was not intended to be witnessed all over the world and to be narrated by all historians. Now listen to the following Five Points that will clear the clouds of misgiving concerning the miracle of the splitting of the moon.

First Point:

The extreme stubbornness of the unbelievers at that tome was notorious. However, when the Most Wise Qur'an announced this occurrence through the verse, And the moon split, none of them dared to contradict the event that was reported by this verse, although they were rejecters of the whole of the Qur'an. If this event had not been witnessed by the unbelievers, they would have denounced this verse and made use of this opportunity in their formidable attacks against the Prophet (S). Whereas neither the Prophet's (S) biography or history reports denial of the occurrence of this event from them. What has been narrated be history is, as the verse, They say, "This is evident magic," Points out that they called it magic. They said, "If the caravans at other places have witnessed this, it is true, otherwise, it is magic. When the caravans coming from Yemen and other places told them the following morning that they had witnessed such an event, they said--God forbid!--"The magic of Abu Talibs's orphan has affected the heavens!"

Second Point:

Most of the foremost scholars such as Sa'd ad-Din at-Taftazani have stated that "The occurrence of the splitting of the moon is mutawatir, just like the running of the water from the fingers of the Prophet (S) and the drinking of a whole army, the weeping of a wooden pillar, against which the Prophet (S) would lean when delivering sermons, at the Prophet's (S) separation and it's being heard by a vast group. This has been transmitted by one truthful group of people to another, forming together so vast a community as its collision to lie is inconceivable. It is as certain as a famous comet having been seen a thousand years ago, or as the existence of the island of Ceylon that we have not seen."

To express doubts about such certain and witnessed occurrences is unreasonable. For their not being impossible is enough reason for their acceptability; as for the splitting of the moon, it is quite as possible as a mountain's splitting with a volcanic eruption.

Third Point:

Miracles take place in order to prove the claim of prophethood, to convince deniers, and not to force them to believe. This miracle needed to convince those who had already heard of the prophet hood of Muhammad (S). To let it be seen from other parts of the world, or to demonstrate it in an undeniably obvious way, therefore, would have been contrary to the Wisdom of the All-Wise Creator and to the purpose of man's function in the universe, which is to open the way for the mind without disabling the free will. If the All-Wise Creator had, in accordance with the whims of materialist philosophers, left the moon in the same condition for a few hours to show it to the entire world, and if this fact had thereby been recorded by all historians, it would have been treated among other astronomical incidents, without being restricted to the messengership of Muhammad (S) and without being considered a proof of prophethood. Or, it would have been such an obvious miracle that it would have forced the mind to believe and deprived it of the free will. As a consequence, coal and diamonds (or Abu Jahl and Abu Bakr) would have been the same--the purpose of man's function in the universe would have been lost. This was the reason why this miracle was not shown to the entire world to be recorded in all books of history.

Point Four:

Since this event took place instantaneously and at a time when people were asleep, it would not, of course, have been seen everywhere. Even if some people had seen it, they would not have believed their eyes; even if they had, such individual reports would not have constituted an inexhaustible theme for historians. Furthermore, and in addition to some other obstacles, it was sunset in Spain and England (which were then under the clouds of ignorance)when this incident happened, daytime in America, and morning in China and Japan; so it could not be observed in other parts of the world. Yet thoughtless rejecters say, "It did not occur, as it is not mentioned in the histories of such people as the Chinese, Japanese, and Americans." A thousand curses upon such bootlickers of the Western philosophers!

(On the other hand, the claim that the moon came down to earth after it had split into two parts has been rejected by scholars. It has been suggested that this claim is probably the work of a hypocrite, aimed at reducing the value of this manifest miracle.)

Fifth Point:

The splitting of the moon was not a product of chance, nor did it occur as a result of natural causes; the ordinary laws of nature are hence inapplicable to this case. In fact, the All-Wise Creator of the sun and the moon wonderfully brought it about as evidence to uphold the prophethood the prophethood of His Messenger and to throw greater light upon his course. The purpose of human obligation, the mystery of guidance and the wisdom of the prophetic message required its demonstration to certain people defined by the lord's wisdom. And those who were not intended and who had not yet heard about the prophethood of Muhammad were prevented from seeing this occurrence by means of many obstacles such as clouds, fog, and time differences. If it had been shown to all alike as a miracle of the Prophet (S), his prophethood would have been so manifest that everyone would have been compelled to accept it; nothing would have been left to the mind--whereas belief is to be acquired by the choice of the mind--and the motive of human obligation would have been lost. If, on the other hand, it had been shown to others as an astronomical incident, it would have had no peculiarity to and no relationship with the message of Muhammad.

As the possibility of the happening of the splitting of the moon has clearly been demonstrate, and there remains no doubt about it, we will now point out six evidences1 of its occurrence out of many.

  • The concurrence of the Companions of the Prophet (S), who are all men of justice,
  • The agreement of all discerning interpreters on the explanation of this verse, "And the moon split,"
  • It's having been narrated by all truthful traditionalists through various authentic channels,
  • The testimony of all the men of truth and sainthood--the men of Inspiration and spiritual discovery,
  • The conformation of theologians who widely vary in their outlooks and of profound scholars,
  • The concurrence of the nation of Muhammad, who, as established by authentic narration, never agree on error.

These are six evidences that prove the splitting of the moon as brightly as the sun.

To conclude, our words up to now have been aimed at proving the occurrence of the miracle and the refutation of the objections to it. The words henceforth will be on behalf of the truth and in the name of faith. So much for the proof; now the truth speaks:

  1. Namely, six evidences that prove the occurrence of this event with a sixfold affirmation.

We regret that this subject has been cut short, although it deserves much more explanation.

The Seal of the Prophets and the brilliant moon in the heaven of messenger-ship showed through hid Ascension the greatest wonder and the supreme miracle if his sainthood, one at the degree of the best beloved servant of Allah. This miracle was to conduct an earthly being through the heavens and show the inhabitants of the heavens and of the highest abodes his superiority to them and his belovedness of Allah. Similarly, such a miracle was demonstrated to the inhabitants of the earth as evidence of his messengership that the moon, which is set in the sky and bound to the earth, split into two upon the gesture of an earthly being. And, these two miracles of his sainthood and messengership as two luminous wings--like the two luminous wing of the moon split into two--he flew to the heaven of perfection, to the Distance of Two Bowstrings, and became the glory of both the beings of the earth and those of the heavens.

So many peace and blessings be upon him and his family as to fill the earth and heavens.

In the Name of Allah, The Compassionate, The Merciful

Glory be unto Thee! We have no knowledge save that which Thou hast taught us: Verily Thou art All-Knowing, All-Wise Qur'an 2:32
